    Bankroll Management Empty Bankroll Management

Post by tbdbitl Sun Dec 20, 2009 12:00 pm

Let me start by saying that many posts that I see on many sites have titles such as poker sucks, I lost it all, I quit, and on and on. But, when you read their post they are asking others where they went wrong in a particular hand. Yes we all need to question how we played hands that we lose and evaluate if there was a mistake that we made. And, I have seen a lot of great advice given from the members of this site. But, not only do we need to understand how to play the game, but we also need to understand what we can afford to lose. We all need to understand Bankroll Management!

Before I went to Vegas the first time I brought home a lot of books explaining all the casino games. How to play them and which ones gave the player the best odds. But, the best book that I read, man I wish I could remember the name of it, was one that discussed what a bankroll was, what sessions were and how to determine what your table and session limits should be based on your bankroll. When I started playing for money on UB with a dollar transfer, I used some of the strategy I learned about sessions and table limits and adjusted them to online play.

Here are some links to the FTP pros advice that I found:

    How Big a Bankroll?
    The Mindset of a Winner
    Chris Ferguson's Bankroll Management

I really wanted to write a blog that outlines the many things I have learned from managing my bankroll, but I just can't get my thoughts structured enough. After all, my wife is the writer, I am not. At any rate, I just hope that a few people here get something from this post.

When I get sufficient privileges, I'll post my poker beginnings as a blog and link to those. After all everyone has to start somewhere!

Okay now some self promotion. Here's some more details on my $1 UB transfer if you are interested:
